Frequently Asked Questions
Kew School of Dance offers one free trial class to students. Before deciding to enrol for a term, each student has the opportunity to complete one trial classes in each of the styles they wish to try. As soon as you finish the trial class, you may register and enrol on the same day.
If students do not have a dance leotard, skirt/shorts/leggings or dance shoes any comfortable clothing that allows free movement may be worn with bare feet for a trial class. Please note that anyone (parents included) entering our studio will be required to remove their shoes to help protect our special dance floor. As soon as possible after enrolment however, we expect our dancers to wear the Kew School of Dance uniform, the majority of which can be purchased at our school reception.
Yes, a Kew School of Dance uniform is required for most of the classes. Uniforms promote professionalism, discipline and a sense of unity in the class. Uniforms also reduce distraction and allow the teachers to asses posture and technique.
We are happy for you to watch your child’s trial class so that you can see our approach to teaching dance. Once trial classes are complete parents do not watch classes unless it is an open week. These usually occur once a term during the last week of term. Many younger students find having parents in the room a distraction and are not as engaged in the learning process.
Prices vary per duration of the class and GST inclusive, 45 minutes $215 (pre-school classes), 60 minutes $225, 75 minutes $235, 90 minutes $250
Yes, there is a $30 enrolment fee that is non refundable and is payable annually per student on enrolment.
There are no refunds for missed classes. If a student is unable to attend a class due to illness, injury or compassionate grounds, a makeup class can be taken, subject to class availability in the same style of dance before the end of each term with the permission of the principal. Makeup classes are not offered to students who miss a class due to conflict with social or school engagements.
Our preferred method of payments is via Electronic Funds Transfer. The bank account details can be found on your invoice. Fees can also be paid by credit card via the parent portal or by direct deposit. Please note that cash payments for term fees will not be accepted.
The class age range is shown with the name of the class on the timetable and is based on the age of the student at the start if the school year. Students are progressed in levels as they get older. Age groups correspond to a certain period in the students’ physiological development, so students are preferentially kept with other children their age, with the option for in-class evaluation of individual level at the teachers’ discretion.
Please look carefully at the age range and school levels of the classes on the timetable, using your child’s age as at the start of the school year. The class teacher will asses a child in their trial and determine if your they are prepared for the challenges of the next level. We firmly think that every student should be given the chance to push themselves and advance, but moving forward too quickly will almost always make pupils feel uneasy and unsafe in the classroom.
Please get in touch with us if you have any inquiries regarding your child’s progress. If you have any inquiries regarding our various curricula and how they relate to the finest dance instruction for your kid, please contact us!

We have a variety of styles to suit every child. For pre-school age students we have Foundation ballet classes which provide movement and variety to teach pre-schoolers to follow directions and move in unison while having fun. Primary school age children can try Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop styles as well as ballet, while our older students can also try all of these plus Lyrical. Hip Hop is a great style for kids who prefer to move with a bit more freedom. Feel free to send us a message and we will be happy to help you decide!
